Wooden Nickel Cabins are conveniently located near Payson, Arizona, in the heart of the Tonto National Forest. Nestled beneath the Mogollon Rim amid mature ponderosa pines you’ll find abundant opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. A variety of wildlife make the Tonto Basin their home and frequently visit our grounds. Area recreational opportunities include the Zane Grey Museum, Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, Rim Country Museum, Tonto & Canyon Creek Fish Hatchery.
We are also the perfect place to stay for all you die hard ASU Sun Devil fans, getting away to Camp Tontozona for their practice camp. We are located 5 short miles away.

Fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, and bird watching are just a few of the activities you may enjoy during your stay. Over 239 varieties of birds make this area their home. For hunters, we’re conveniently located in Game & Fish unit #23. Anglers will appreciate our immediate proximity to area lakes and streams.

Hikers, mountain bikers and ATV’ers will appreciate forest trailhead access only a few miles away. It isn’t uncommon to view elk, deer, wild turkey, and the occasional a bald eagle soaring by while you relax in the cool ambience of our forested retreat. 

The nearby communities of Payson and Christopher Creek offer you dining, dancing, antiquing, and shopping. Many artisans offer their creations for sale in quaint area boutiques.
